ADVOCATING FOR FULL DEMOCRACY

Sandi Stevens-Our Advocate

I’m running for Delegate because Washington, DC deserves a representative who knows how Congress works — and how to challenge it.

I’ve served at every level of government: in Congress, in the White House, and in local government. I’ve helped write policy, build coalitions, and organize national movements. I’ve seen what happens when communities are denied a voice — and how power changes when people organize together.

As Delegate, I will fight every day for DC Home Rule, budget autonomy, control of our National Guard, and full Statehood. I will use my experience organizing across all 50 states to build the national pressure needed to finally secure equal representation.

This campaign is about dignity, democracy, and self‑determination.

DC deserves a vote. DC deserves Statehood.

Big Ideas, Real Impact.

Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose.

Statehood for DC is our number one goal.

Sandi Stevens for Delegate to Congress

Experience matters when DC is under pressure.

I’ve governed at the local level, worked at the both the DNC, the State Department, and served as Vice President of Congressional & External Affairs at the Export-Import Bank of the United States — I understand how power moves in Washington and how to make it work for our city.

Qualified leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about results.

I bring the discipline, relationships, and federal fluency needed to defend DC’s home rule, protect our budget, and represent every ward with strength and credibility from day one.

Friends, neighbors, and fellow Washingtonians,

I moved to Washington, DC in 1987 and built my life here. I continued my career here. And like so many of you, I learned early that loving this city also means defending it.

I’m running for Congress because Washington deserves a Delegate who knows how to fight effectively, not symbolically. Someone who understands neighborhoods and understands Congress. Someone who has governed before, and knows how to turn pressure into results.

I’m a former city council member from Chicago’s 7th Ward, a community with the same challenges and the same strength you see east of the river right here in DC. I worked on public safety, economic opportunity, and neighborhood investment, not as talking points, but as daily responsibilities.

I’m also a former attorney, and I’ve spent years navigating the federal system. I know how power actually moves in Washington. And that matters, because the Delegate’s job is not about floor votes, it’s about leverage.

Right now, DC faces unprecedented threats to home rule, to our budget, and to our right to govern ourselves. This is not the moment for learning on the job. This is the moment for experience, stamina, and credibility.

This campaign is about results over resumes. It’s about being tough enough to stand up to Congress, and grounded enough to stand with every ward in this city.

With ranked-choice voting, this campaign will be different. I’m asking you to rank me first if you believe in this vision. But even if you don’t, I ask you to consider ranking me second, because this race is about who can best protect DC, not about tearing each other down.

I’ve served before. I know what the work requires. And I’m ready to do it again for the city I’ve called home for nearly four decades.

I ask for your support, your voice, and your partnership.
Let’s defend DC, together.
